Hong Kong is more than skyscrapers, shopping, and dim sum. It’s home to some of the most incredible hiking trails in Asia. From views atop of scenic peaks to picturesque coastal trails, Hong Kong has it all to combine city life with understated natural beauty. There is a hike for everyone, whether you are a beginner looking for a short walk or an expert hiker looking for a challenge.

Hong Kong Yatra’s best hiking trails in the city:

1. Dragon’s Back Trail (Shek O Country Park)

Level of difficulty: Easy to Moderate

Duration: 2–3 hours

Distance: 8.5 km

Dragon’s Back Trail is the most iconic hike in Hong Kong and for good reason.  The rolling spine of the ridge looks like a dragon’s back, providing epic views of Shek O, Tai Long Wan and the South China Sea. Ideal for the beginner and highly accessible from the city. Once you’re done with the hike, treat yourself to a swim or a seafood lunch in Shek O Village!

📍 Starting Point: To Tei Wan, Shek O Road

🚇 Closest MTR Station: Shau Kei Wan Bus 9

2. Lion Rock Hike (Lion Rock Country Park)

Difficulty: Moderate

Duration: 2–2.5 hours

Length: ~6 km

Lion Rock exemplifies what the spirit of Hong Kong represents. The views from this iconic peak offer some of the best views of Kowloon and Victoria Harbour, particularly stunning at dusk while contemplating the city below. The summit approach to Lion Rock can be steep at times, but you will not be disappointed when standing next to the “lion’s head” rock pile and you see the finished photo next to the peak below.

🚇 Nearest MTR: Wong Tai Sin

3. Tai Long Wan (Sai Kung East Country Park)

Difficulty: Moderate

Tai Long Wan translates into “Big Wave Bay.” Therefore, yes, it was one of Hong Kong’s most stunning beaches (and- of course- technically still is). On this hike, you complete dreamy views of lush and undulating hills and coal- turquoise coast. Tai Long Wan also gives you the option to surf or camp.

For committed hikers, you can hike the trail in week long hikes. However, if you wish to hike one section at a time, you can!
